Okay, so I just added comments to my blog. Well, the ability for YOU to add comments, that is. I guess. I don't expect this feature to get much use at first because my traffic's really died down since I stopped posting regularly, but it's VERY apropos of this post, so I wanted to not only get it working, but also point out at the beginning of the post that you should UTILIZE this new feature. Please.
Here's my profoundly ultra-super-important reason for needing your help - I can NOT decide on the color of wrap to buy for a charity thing I'm attending in less than two weeks. I know I'm ridiculous, and that this is a pretty "ghay" cry for help, but whatevs. I am NOT naturally stylish, and I'm having difficulty deciding on this.
When I requested the event's dress code, I was told, "something fun and not too dressy but festive! Most women wore skirts or dresses, and some wore nice pants."
Based on a list of some of the guests, the fact that it's at night, and also the fact that I'm going with my mom, I've decided to interpret "not too dressy" to mean cocktail.
I'm wearing a black dress similar to this one (mine has a higher waist and a smaller bow, but I can't find it online), these shoes (for springtime festiveness), and I'll figure out makeup, nails, bag, and jewelry after I pick a wrap.
This is the wrap I'm getting, but I don't know what color to get it in. I don't want black, green, brown, or that "panna" color, and I'm not sure about the coral since I'm so pale and cool-toned. Other than that, what do YOU think?
If you hate the wrap I picked no matter what color it's in, this wrap (in ivory) is my second choice.
Now PLEASE let me know your opinion! I need input. Unless that input is, "ur gay." Because that reeeally doesn't help me.

I think that if you're going to spend that much on a wrap, it better have some good chicken in it. I mean... I think that if you're going to spend that much on a wrap, you need to assess the rest of your wardrobe to maximize the later potential of wearing it with other things. A neutral is always safer, but a color that goes well with other things you already own is best, 'cause you'll feel better wearing it, and probably get more attention.
I like the first wrap better, and have no input on the color other than that. (Except that I, of course, like the "sea violets", but probably not with a black dress.)
p.s. ur ghay
Thanks, Jon! :) Hmmm...my wardrobe is about 40% pinks/cool reds, 30% black/grays, 15% other pastels, 10% browns/creams, and 5% miscellaneous.
Regardless of the color I pick, I'm sure I'll use it repeatedly.
Also, my mom is picking up the tab. ;)
Good night! :)
Love the first wrap.
Love the dress.
Love the shoes (so you!).
Love the new website look.
I normally wouldn't recommend these colors as they don't look good on everyone, but I think you'd look fabulous in a pretty, light green wrap. Pistachio? Appletini? Other than that I am always a big fan of bright primary colors like Red Flare or Sea Violets and I can imagine you looking great in both. Hmm, did I just recommend four colors? Well, considering it's a spring cocktail gathering, perhaps something spring-like would be most appropriate (plus it'd complement the shoes). SO, I go with pistachio. It would be complementary to your skin tone and your shoes/dress ensemble.
Whatever the color, you'll look smashing!
Thanks, Ai! :D I like red flare and sea violets too. :) I've been shying away from the green ones because I didn't think they'd look good on my skin, but maybe pistachio would be a good choice. It's very springy, goes with the shoes, and would look nice against a black dress. Hmm...
I wish they had a lavender option because I think that would be a beautiful spring color on you. But if you don't want to get another wrap in lavender then, based on the shoes, I would go with pale turquoise, ballet pink or red flare. The shoes have blue and red in the print. My mom is also weighing in and she thinks you would look fabulous in a teal color....which also isn't available here. Dammit, I'm going to find a wrap that comes in lavender and/or teal and force you to buy it!
OK: 1) turquoise 2) ballet pink 3) red. Those are my votes.
I am absolutely the wrong person to ask about fashion -- I have no sense. But I like both the pale colors. Everyone else's advice sound excellent.
I would go with the first wrap, in a color that ties in your shoes. I actually like the panna, ballet pink, pale turquoise, or pistachio. Or, the red flare but that is not as "springy".
You should go with your gut on which color will make you feel how you want to feel for the night: sexy? fun? cute? feminine? conservative? Color says a lot.
Lastly, I am not sure that a brown or ivory color would be a good choice with the shoes, or over a black dress (just my opinion, but I am not a fashion guru).
Have fun!
Hope it's not too late for me to comment...but here goes:
Because youre skin is so pale, one of the washed out colors would not do too well, like the pale torqouise.
You have the greens, pinks, reds and blues in your shoes, so any of those colors would be good.
I think with your skin tone, the fact that you are wearing black and the style of shoe and dress style you should go with Apple, Leaf green, sea violet or red flare. The sea violet may dress the whole thing up more (and depending on how violet it is may not match the beachy feel of the shoe fabric at all...), and the greens may make it a bit more casual. The red could go the way of looking too Christmas party at work-ish. I think your best bet is probably in the green family.
=)
I'm weighing in again because I'm procrastinating. I don't want to wash my hair because I hate having wet hair and being cold but it really really needs a washing. So I'm procrastinating.
ANYWHO...I looked at the shoes again and maybe you want to go with the rose color since the shoes have pink in the print. Ballet pink might be too pale but the rose seems like a strong enough color without being too loud.
Coral could be an option depending on how peachy it is. The shoe has a lot of "warm" colors in it: the yellow, orange, red and green all have gold/brown undertones from what I can tell and so the coral could be the right mix of gold-y tones and pink.
Can you buy these at the store and like hold the colors up to your face and the shoes and see which one works best or is this only online? I'm still a fan of that other teal one...if I had somewhere/reason to wear it.
I bought the pistachio one. :) It's funny because I started out nixing all the greens because I was worried they'd wash me out, but there were several green votes here, as well as a couple of non-blog green votes, and...well...I kind of like the idea of the "springiness" of it.
It also occurred to me that one of my favorite knit scarves is almost the exact same green as the pistachio wrap, and I've gotten tons of compliments when I wear it, so the color probably won't be a problem.
Thanks sooo much to everyone for chiming in and helping me sort out my thoughts on this! (Especially to procrastinating Shannon, who chimed in several times and even sent me links!) :)
Sweet! Springy! Next time I see you, I will hope to see the scarf if you have it. Ooh, "Fashion Show At Lunch!" (a la Kelly from "The Office")
I've been having fashion problems too ... should I wear my levi's or my Khaki slacks??? It's just tooooo complicated for me :) Dear Sweet Dad
Shannon: did Brett tell you that we love the American version of The Office now? It's awesome, but we're not caught up (we've been slooowly getting them from our Netflix), so don't share too much info. Did you know that Pam is the wife of James Gunn (writer of Slither and the newer Dawn of the Dead)? :O
Daddycakes: You're so cute. I think you should wear your Levi's while enjoying the outdoors and/or manual labor, and your khakis the rest of the time. Unless you like wearing jeans, in which case I say wear them as often as you can.
I personally like slacks better, because I think jeans feel too thick and stuffy. And they always make me feel like I should be camping. That's probably just me though...I think other people like them.
