This morning, my desktop keyboard died. I didn't know what to do. How would I use the internets? How would I communicate? How would I live? A girl can't function on mouse alone.
Sure, I could (and did) use my laptop, but its screen is small and too close to my hands. If worse came to worst and my laptop wasn't cutting it I could've used the wiinternets, but the Wii uses Opera and a vkeyboard, which is pretty limiting.
I didn't know what to do. In the end, I wound up finding a clunky old ergonomic keyboard in our basement that will work okay for now (though it's not technically Mac compatible, so I can't use the normal command-shortcuts), but not before I managed to turn "I need a new keyboard" into "I'm getting an iMac."
(Incidentally, after complaining about my keyboard woes to Brett, he suggested I make a submission to White Whine, which I promptly did.)
Since my monitor is not long for this world, and since I've wanted more RAM since last summer, and I've wanted Leopard since last fall, and my current CPU is almost three years old and should *probably* be replaced, getting an iMac is really my only option.
Well, okay. There are other options out there. I could get a PC. I could build a mud hut and write off modern society completely. But if I want a new Mac desktop, my choices are pretty limited. As a housewife I can hardly justify buying a Mac Pro AND a new display. And since I need a display, I might as well get an iMac instead of another mini, because...I want one. So we looked at iMacs today, and decided that I'll get the second-cheapest one. I was going to go for the cheapest one, but Brett pushed me to go for the next one up. Yay!
I have to wait another month or so to buy it, because in the last few weeks we've spent a shitass ton of money on other things, but I'm okay with that. Woo!!! See how I did that? How I turned my lemons into lemonade?
I also turned my lemons into FINALLY writing a new post, because when I complained to Brett this morning about all the things I couldn't do on my desktop without a physical keyboard, "post to my blog" was one of them. So once I found my new/old keyboard downstairs, I figured I should actually use it to post.
Speaking of lemonade:
