Stay calm. Everything is going to be alright.

This morning, my desktop keyboard died. I didn't know what to do. How would I use the internets? How would I communicate? How would I live? A girl can't function on mouse alone.

Sure, I could (and did) use my laptop, but its screen is small and too close to my hands. If worse came to worst and my laptop wasn't cutting it I could've used the wiinternets, but the Wii uses Opera and a vkeyboard, which is pretty limiting.

I didn't know what to do. In the end, I wound up finding a clunky old ergonomic keyboard in our basement that will work okay for now (though it's not technically Mac compatible, so I can't use the normal command-shortcuts), but not before I managed to turn "I need a new keyboard" into "I'm getting an iMac."

(Incidentally, after complaining about my keyboard woes to Brett, he suggested I make a submission to White Whine, which I promptly did.)

Since my monitor is not long for this world, and since I've wanted more RAM since last summer, and I've wanted Leopard since last fall, and my current CPU is almost three years old and should *probably* be replaced, getting an iMac is really my only option.

Well, okay. There are other options out there. I could get a PC. I could build a mud hut and write off modern society completely. But if I want a new Mac desktop, my choices are pretty limited. As a housewife I can hardly justify buying a Mac Pro AND a new display. And since I need a display, I might as well get an iMac instead of another mini, because...I want one. So we looked at iMacs today, and decided that I'll get the second-cheapest one. I was going to go for the cheapest one, but Brett pushed me to go for the next one up. Yay!

I have to wait another month or so to buy it, because in the last few weeks we've spent a shitass ton of money on other things, but I'm okay with that. Woo!!! See how I did that? How I turned my lemons into lemonade?

I also turned my lemons into FINALLY writing a new post, because when I complained to Brett this morning about all the things I couldn't do on my desktop without a physical keyboard, "post to my blog" was one of them. So once I found my new/old keyboard downstairs, I figured I should actually use it to post.

Speaking of lemonade:

Glad to hear everything will be OK. When I saw your note title without seeing the preview in the StalkerFeed, I assumed something really terrible had happened — AND IT HAD! But I'm glad it got worked out and that you get Leopard in a few weeks! Fun!

We were going to get Leopard over Christmas but then I read about a few kinks in the system and we didn't have enough time to hook everything up to all three computers before the holiday break was over. So now we'll get it this summer when we can back up everything beforehand and my mom won't freak out every five seconds when she can't find that one document that she wrote 10 years ago!

I need to destroy my keyboard if it leads directly to a new iMac! Actually, we've considered getting an iMac instead of getting a computer and new television... it's kind of odd thinking, but that's how we roll.

enjoy the new OSX, and feel the wrath of my jealousy!

The display of my new iMac is actually comparable in size to that of our tv. One day we'll probably get a nice big flat-screen, but we don't really need one right now. Actually, we've never bought a new tv.

We have two working tvs right now: a 13" in our bedroom that I've had since high school (thanks, dad!), and a 20-something" in our living room that was a hand-me-down from my mom about seven years ago. We're kickin' it old skool.

But I don't really care. Because 99% of tv is so lame that I could barf, and a fair bit of the rest of it is available online anyway, or through Netflix or the library or whatever.

I know you (Aaron) and Megan like your Buffy and all that, but you could totally watch that stuff on an iMac. As long as the DVDs will play. Plus, when we were at Western there were a ton of people who had cable tv piped into their computers. I don't know if digital cable would be easier or harder to do that with, but I'm sure that in the future all that stuff will just get easier and easier.
