A dialogue.

BRETT
(picks up a small plush pez dispenser with the head of a pig)
pig-a-let!!!

CAT
(watches with apprehension as Brett pushes back the head of the pez-pig and pulls out a piece of candy)
That is OLD.

BRETT
(shrugs with nonchalance)

CAT
We got that for Chinese New Year!!!

BRETT
(pops pez into his mouth, and begins to chew)

CAT
(with disgust)
I can't believe you ate that.

BRETT
(with a complete LACK of disgust)
I can't believe I'm about to eat another one.

*sigh* Boys. Funny, though, Ben doesn't like old food. At least that I can tell. But he also doesn't do a lot of cooking. Are those two things somehow inversely related?

Maybe those two things ARE related; if you hate old food to the point of refusing to eat leftovers, spending hours cooking a complicated meal might not seem worth it because you'd only get to enjoy it once.

I myself intensionally make larger recipes (especially when cooking/baking things that take a lot of time) so that I can get at least two full meals from my efforts.

I love eating a delicious dinner, waking up the next morning wishing that I had more, and actually having it. And then eating it for lunch. Woo!

Funny thing though: I will never eat food past its expiration date, and I won't eat most leftovers past the 3-4 day mark (unless they've been frozen). Brett, who isn't usually a huge fan of most leftovers, has been known to eat some things waaay past their expiration dates. Waaay past. Go figs.

Brad will eat leftovers for breakfast. He doesn't cook, but he likes leftovers. Well, he cooks tacos. But that's it. I've eaten year old pez before. It's not any worse than fresh pez, and really, do you even know how old it is when you've purchased it from the store? Sugar and "food" coloring seem to be able to last forever.

Don't let em bring you down brett! You eat that pez and eat it with pride!

to Aaron: done and done.

to Kim: hurrah! candy of the pez variety doesn't seem like it can expire at all.. and i'll tell you from experience, that pez was just as bad as new.

to Shannon and Cat: criticize all you like... i'll eat more.
